Generally Dremel turns out great tools but this one doesn't measure up. It took 45 minutes to cut through a five inch line of fiber composition board after which the blade was dull. Then I tried sanding the area smooth with the sanding attachment, but the rubber mounting attachment soon developed wear marks on the edges.

I knew about oscillating multi-tools but so far hadn't needed one. I'm a bit leery about just buying tools on a whim because sometimes I've found that they really don't make things easier or save time.



This spring I had a small DIY project in my kitchen which included cleanly removing sections of existing base & crown moulding without marring the floor, walls or ceiling. I first wanted to see how long it would take me to do it with the tools I had and learned that it was quite tedious & difficult if I wanted to be neat and even with care, the adjacent moulding got a few chips/scratches/cracks and the drywall got gouged.



So I decided to order this reconditioned Dremel Multi-Max and work on a different part of the project in the meantime. I've had good luck with reconditioned tools so I figured it was worth the gamble. One thing that swayed me toward the Dremel over the other brands was that replacement blades could be easily had from the local big-box stores. It arrived on time (I'm cheap and went with the slowest shipping). Opening it up, I found a complete set. The blades were obviously new and the Multi-Max looked new too even though it must have been used at one time in order to have been reconditioned.



I spent a few minutes testing the Multi-Max on scrap and then tackled the moulding. "Whir whir whir" (change the angle of the blade)"whir whir whir pop" (cat's paw action) and the first piece was out. Not only was it insanely easy & quick but the results were a big improvement over my earlier attempts by hand: the cuts were sharp & clean and the adjacent moulding/walls/floor/ceiling were unmarred. I was able to remove all the other sections just as quickly.



I suspect this thing will be handy for a few upcoming projects (repairing sections of our old hardwood floor and the biggy: upgrading our garage interior). The Multi-max is great for fiddly work - that is making neat precise cuts in awkward places.

This is a great tool and getting a refurbished one saves a ton of money. If you are hesitating purchase of this refurbed, then go ahead and spend 50% more money. You will get the very same thing, except yours won't be looked at TWICE by a human. The choice is yours. Pay more and get the same or pay less and get the same. No brainer to me.

I purchased this to deal with some trim that I needed to remove around a fireplace (installing a larger surround) where I didn't want to damage or remove the current baseboard. I also needed to trim the tongue off of some flooring boards that go around the base of the fireplace.



It made short work of it and easily cut through the trim, leaving a very clean cut. The 60-some-dollars I paid for this on Amazon was totally worth saving the time and frustration of removing the trim using any other means. I can see where this tool would be extremely helpful when working with trim as it allows you to easily make plunge cuts where you would otherwise have to remove large pieces of trim or possibly even damage the wall. It's precise enough and easy enough to control to be able to remove the lip off of a flooring board with ease.



One note is that the tool heats up pretty quickly. Not sure how it will hold up over time and over prolonged use, but otherwise, a great tool to add to your collection.



I'm very pleased with the purchase. The blades (wood and scraper) it came with were new or like new and wrapped in plastic. A great value at the price.

I bought this reconditioned Dremel 6300 Multi Max tool and I have to say it was a great decision. [...] shipped to my house. I bought the grout attachment and removed the grout in my bathroom floor. It's a smaller bathroom with about 30 sq feet of 12" tile. Took about 2 hours or a little more to remove the grout. Worked like new. Looked like new. I'm very happy with deciding to do this. I can't wait to try some of the other options it has.

I searched other reviews for similar Dremels and realized this is a quality control issue.

I use my dremel to drill holes in glass. The flex shaft is great because it's easy to handle and allows me to drill into water without risking putting my dremel into water. I also like using it with the foot pedal and the chuck. The flex shaft does what it says it does and does it well.

I have owned my Gerber 600 Pro Scout's for going on 13 years, and although I don't really use them for their intended purpose, I still use them EVERY DAY in my line of work as an Industrial Robotic Weld Technician. I bought mine on a whim some 13 years ago while looking for some welding pliers, and wow, am I glad I did! On the few occasions I've forgotten them, I literally feel naked at work without them. I use them DAILY to change robotic welding tips, gas diffusers and nozzles, cut shrink wrap off welding wire spools, and cut welding wire and they have NEVER failed me. Also, the little scissors work great for cutting leather wrap for the robotic weld torches. I'd like to know just how many times I've cut steel welding wire and robotic torch liners with these. In the same period of time I would probably have gone through 20 pairs of dedicated welding pliers, which is why I'm so glad I didn't find any that fateful day back in 1997! And as a guy who is a tool junky anyway and constantly using tools for this or that, I can honestly say that I have never gotten as much use out of any one tool than these great little multi-pliers from Gerber. I just recently decided to retire my first pair (sentimental reasons) and purchase a new pair to use, as well as the larger Freehand model. Here's to another 13 years (or more!) of handy use!

I purchased this tool from Amazon not from any other seller and to my surprise and disappointment upon opening the box from Amazon the box the tool came in looked a little used. I opened the Gerber box it there were greasy fingerprints and smudge marks on the tool itself. It appeared to have been used at some point. The greasy marks wiped off with a cloth and there were no scratches in the actual tool. The tool has worked fine since I have received it. The tool is very good especially the locking mechanism.

This is a pretty nice knife except for a couple of issues I'd have rated it higher.



Bad points-



Only one standard screw driver blade - small size with a nice bottle opener built in the same blade. My son dropped this once when he barrowed it from me and the screwdriver blade chipped. Must be some pretty good hardened steel.



No saw - The black Finegrif (tm) saw blade is a joke. It would take half an hour (at least) to cut through a small nail and the blade is too thin to not break right off. For wood this blade is even less effective. This is a none usable...



The file has no teeth on the sides like a proper file should. One side is a double cut and the other single cut (metal). No chance for an emergency manicure here.



Can opener blade has no fingernail slot and it's sharp so it's hard to safely deploy without cutting yourself in the dark.



Best things about this knife-



Nice set of needle nose pliers great for small precision type jobs. One handed operation (pliers only) and also has a comfortable grip.



Scissors- a necessity in my opinion.



locking blades- excellent system for locking the blades



All and all a good quality tool but with some design flaws.

Quality -- The first observation I must make concerning the Multi-Plier 600 Pro Scout with Needlenose pliers (and all the other modern Gerber products with which I'm familiar) is the outstanding quality of the fit and finish. This particular product proudly wears a Made In USA label, and it features satin-finished stainless steel throughout with Zytel plastic buttons to unlock the fold out tools. It opens fairly smoothly, feels solid in your hand, and the knife blade and other tools lock in the open position for safe and secure use.



Selection -- Choosing an ideal multi-tool is perhaps the hardest task facing the user. Multi-tool marketing favors manufacturers and retailers because there are so many different configurations (too many, in fact, and you could find yourself with a collection.) I don't like that for reasons too numerous to mention, but suffice to say there's no single multi-tool that includes all the tools I might want or need. An ideal scenario would be a build-your-own concept, but that's out of the question since Gerber doesn't sell direct to the consumer.



Usability -- The 600 ProScout lets you carry a lot of useful tools in a compact package that weighs about twelve ounces. The tools are as follows:



1. The needlenose pliers are one of the best in a multi-tool. They are precision made and allow a lot of leverage and pressure to be applied to a part. They retract into the handles for storage. On this model, they must be deployed to use the fold out tools; this is one thing that makes this tool unique from some of the other Gerber tools.



2. The tool steel file, made by Simonds, is coarse on one side and fine on the other; it suffers from being too small for most of what you'd want a file for, but it still has some use.



3. There's one Phillips (crosshead) screwdriver that is about a #1 head size. It's just too small to inspire confidence when I am prone to overtighten EVERYTHING.



4. Two slotted blade screwdrivers (small and medium) are actually ground to size as opposed to just being stampings. Screwdrivers are usually the weakest link in a multi-tool because of their small size and the twisting pressures that are applied to them so you definitely don't want to pretend they are prybars, too.



5. One of the screwdrivers is also a bottle opener (opens bottle caps I guess, but I have NEVER used this).



6. There's a can opener that's well made; while it does work, it's not my choice to use in the kitchen but when camping or while parked along a roadside waiting for triple A after grocery shopping it's another story.



7. The drop point knife is a combination fine edge and serrated edge. While it's a good blade, in the Gerber tradition, you don't get enough of either edge style and it's VERY difficult to sharpen the serrated part.



8. There's a RemGrit (tungsten carbide grit on alloy steel) jig saw blade in a universal coupler. It cuts on the forward and reverse strokes and is self sharpening. I just had to have this multi-tool because it has this saw that cuts a lot of different materials. The blade can be replaced when it wears out or you could swap it with a regular wood or metal jig saw blade.



9. The Fiskars scissors are small but sharp. I'm not disappointed by their usefulness and quality, but then real men and women won't do their tailoring with this thing either.



Maybe it's just me, but cutting stuff is what this particular tool configuration is about (knife, saw, scissors) and that's why it's nice to have the file to touch up rough edges which is invariably what I get when I cut stuff. The tool would be more useful still if it had a lanyard ring on it so then I wouldn't need another model multi-tool for another hobby.



I could give this a five star rating if it wasn't for the fact that every multi-tool combo is a compromise of convenience (miniaturization) versus function. Plus you pay dearly for having many tools in the package while you have the expectation that you'll have use for the chosen tool configuration often. The Gerber Multi-Plier is a handy way to keep your life together without carrying a toolbox.

It took awhile after buying to get around to using this tool, but once I tried it out I found this to be the most handy tool for special cutting needs. My largest project has been grout removal and it works great. I did find the tool heating up in my hand and I think that comes from the way you have to hold the front end and at the same time covering the motor venting. I like the feel in my hand, the variable speed control, the power it provides along with control for accuracy. I have also tried it on wood door jambs for tiling and flooring fit as well as cutting wall electrical boxes. I would recommend to any of my friends for DIY work.

it was working ok, till today as a matter of fact! i like that i can cut a nice accurate thin kerf. it seems a little like a toy more than a tool, but it does work and it is lightweight. it stopped working in the middle of a cut. i don't know whether the switch is at fault or a loose connection inside..

I purchased this tool for my husband for Christmas. Right after that we started a remodeling project in our house. I can't count the number of times he used the Dremel with great results. He has all the different attachments and I believe he used all of them. He thinks it's a wonderful addition for his tool box.

I purchased this item a few weeks ago with the purpose of using it for two things, plunge cutting drywall for removal of sections all ready in place instead of using a blade (using the half moon blade for Drywall and wood). Also removing some grout (1/8 blade, purchased from another source), and in both cases it has worked without issue.



When plunge cutting drywall it actually works quickly and like stated with low dust kick-up, when going down a line it does take about 5 minutes to do a 8ft wall, but doing a outlet box takes just a minute. If have ever used a Roto-Zip it is a dust pig, this is not, but also a Roto-Zip I must say is more powerful and wild at times because it wants to rip through everything.



I do agree with others that the venting on the machine is in a poor location, you do want to hold it at the top for control, instead of the actual hand grip area, but depnding on angle and different attachments this may be a issue no matter where the venting is because of wanting to place your hand for best control at that time.



Overall it does what I wanted it for... low low dust compared to other power tools.
